Although there is no big Switch-On – the Christmas Lights are all in place, as is the town Christmas Tree in front of the Clock Tower – and the lights go on this evening. The Rutherford’s window display is as spectacular as ever – and many other shops will be putting in a special effort with Christmas displays.

And the Morpeth Rotary Tree of Light will soon be illuminated in the Arcade. To make donation and/or leave a message visit: https://tinyurl.com/y3zyv9rv

Stobhill Trial Kerbside Glass Collection starts tomorrow (Friday) – remember to put your new bin out! https://www.northumberland.gov.uk/glass.aspx

Market stalls selling food & drink are “essential” so are permitted under lockdown, so:

  • There will be an Early Christmas Market this Saturday (14th) with food & drink stalls only.
  • The Wednesday Market will continue with food stalls through lockdown.
  • Street Food Markets are scheduled for 28th Nov and 19th Dec with some (£45) pitches available – see https://tinyurl.com/y5u9gyde
  • The Christmas Farmers Market will be on Saturday 5th Dec  with the range of stalls depending on the status of lockdown
  • And there will be another Christmas Market on Saturday 12th Dec.

You DON’T have to rely on the supermarkets for your food deliveries or on Amazon or Argos for your Christmas shopping – you can still #shoplocal ordering online and by phone from your local shops (who rely on the run-up to Christmas for most of their annual income). Follow More in Morpeth on Facebook & Twitter for offers (and message or email More In Morpeth to get your offers listed!)

Many “non-essential” shops – including a lot of independents – are offering online, email and telephone ordering – with delivery and collect services.

Most Morpeth restaurants and cafes are now offering takeaway and delivery services – not just traditional takeaways but Sunday lunches, full menu mealscream teas etc. For example The Wansbeck is featuring a “guest” streetfood takeaway van every Friday – and is also takeaways from offering its Thai food menu

The Lions Giving Tree is looking for new pyjamas and snuggle blankets for 5 to 16 year olds. Donations (new or used) can be collected tel 01670 516859 or 222435. Cash donations are welcome through https://www.justgiving.com/morpethlions

In line with current Government guidance for this lockdown – the Town Council’s playgrounds and Terrace (old library car park) public toilets will remain open

The next Inside Morpeth will be delivered in the second week of Dec. Please get any stories, articles or other copy to Ian Leech ian-leech@sky.com by 26th Nov.
