Morpeth Town Council asked for a confirmation from Northumberland County Council, that the Morpeth Neighbourhood Plan does hold weight when planning applications are being considered.
Northumberland County Council responded with the following statement –
“A ‘made’ Neighbourhood Plan carries full weight insofar as it is consistent with National and local plan policies. As the Morpeth Neighbourhood Plan is formally ‘made’, it becomes part of the statutory development plan. Consequently, decisions on whether or not to grant planning permission in the Morpeth neighbourhood area will need to be made in accordance with the plan, unless material considerations indicate otherwise”.
